UNDER OPEN SKY was written and performed in 2010. It is the result of a project that I undertook as a graduate student to find a throughline between jazz and folk music. It was inspired greatly by the Hank Jones/Charlie Haden record "Steal Away", and by the John Scofield tune heard here, "Wabash III". It is a mix of folk arrangements and original music inspired by folk music. Special thanks to Clay Jenkins at the Eastman School of Music for his mentorship during this project.
